The One-minute Meditation Challenge

You’ve been wanting to try meditation, but you’ve (admit it) made excuses. “It’s too hard,” you grumble. “I don’t have time,” you grouse. "I have to feed the cat," said only my mom.

Behold! The meditation gurus here at LewisLovesYou are making your journey / bitching much easier. Introducing the One-minute Meditation Challenge.

Here’s how it works: you meditate … for a whole minute. We're talking 60 seconds.

That’s less time than it takes to brush your teeth, put in your contacts or brain fart another Facebook post about how you could really use a pumpkin spice muffin.

Take the One-minute Meditation Challenge right now. Do it. No delays. Set your phone or watch alarm for one minute and hit start.

Now close your eyes. Breathe in and out of your nose as slowly as you can while simply focusing on your breath. Yup, five to seven seconds in and five to seven seconds out while trying to think only about breathing in and out.

I know this is hard. Your mind is wandering. You're telling yourself you're doing it wrong. You're telling yourself you REALLY could use that pumpkin spice muffin.

Accept the mistakes. Stay with it. Keep breathing in and out. Again. And again. And –

Oh, that’s the sound of your alarm. It’s already been a minute.

Guess what? You made it. You’re still alive. Doesn't matter if you didn't make it more than a second without your concentration breaking. You passed, damn it. You’re officially a meditator. A winner.

Did you transcend space and time? Probably not. For that you’ll need quaaludes and The Allman Brothers.

Maybe you hated all 60 seconds of it. Congrats, you can still say you tried meditation. And to repeat - you're officially a meditator.

Now do it again tomorrow. And the next day. And the next. Fail every time.

Eventually, you’ll make it to two minutes. And then three. And five. And who knows how high after that.

Or maybe you won’t. Maybe one minute every day is all you need. That's great too, because one minute is better than nothing.

Awesome job, friend. Now go celebrate by meditating for another minute.

Or maybe you just need a muffin ...
